This drawing was inspired by a dress designed by John Galliano. New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology featured it in its 2019 museum exhibition “Paris, Capital of Fashion.” I attempted to convey the tone-deafness of the aristocracy to the struggle of life on the fringes.

In 2018, a Mandarin duck swooped onto The Pond at Central Park and became an instant celebrity and tourist attraction. He stuck around for months, flying here and there and frequently posing for a flock of photographers. Then one day he disappeared. His whereabouts remains a mystery.

In the early days of the pandemic, locked down New Yorkers honored essential workers by sticking our heads out windows at 7 p.m. and screaming, clapping, cheering, pounding pots and pans, blowing whistles, sometimes horns and kazoos. It was a great tradition, but after many months of isolation, it began to fade away.
